“members are encouraged to look outwards from school and the assembled company”

The Lectern Society

The Lectern Society takes its name from the wooden reading desk which is the focal point at our termly formal dinners.

A speech is made after the first course, two after the main course and two after pudding. Members may speak on any topic they wish but whether their intent is comic or serious they are encouraged to look outwards from school and the assembled company. With membership confined to thirty, all members enjoy or endure their turn at the lectern during their sixth form career. Pre-prandial drinks are served at the home of a staff guest of honour but all speeches are delivered by the students.
