“Why not ask for a demonstration?”

Internet resources

For all of these subscription services, a username and password are required - please contact a member of LRC staff.  When you do so, why not ask for a demonstration of how best to use the website that interests you?

Complete Issues considers emotive subjects and collects together for and against articles, facts and figures, and contact details of appropriate organisations.  Very useful for argumentative writing for English, discussions in Life and Learning, and preparation for Debating teams.  Searching this website returns relevant material from three annual resources available in print format in the Reference Collection of the LRC: Essential Articles, Fact File and Key Organisations.

Issues Online also collects together factual information and opinion pieces on social topics you might discuss in Life and Learning lessons or consider when Debating.  All of the information is also published in books that are available in the LRC.  Search (or ask) for the 'Issues' series.

emagazine provides essential reading for Sixth Formers studying English at AS or A2 Level.  Many of the articles are directly relevant to the books you are studying; any spare time spent reading any piece from this excellent magazine will be time well spent.  Back copies are also available both from the LRC and in the English Department.

Just4Textiles provides access to back copies of this Textiles magazine, as well as additional articles and support materials.  Take care to log in from the centre of the webpage, not the login point on the left.

LRC users looking for the Factiva database (used in the past especially by the Modern Languages department) should note that schools access to this service has been discontinued.  LRC staff are looking into a suitable replacement.
