“get used to thinking hard”

Oxbridge

... a problem should be difficult in order to entice us, yet not completely inaccessible, lest it mock our efforts. It should be to us a guidepost on the mazy path to hidden truths, and ultimately a reminder of our pleasure in the successful solution.

Interest in Oxbridge continues to be high and provision for Oxbridge candidates is detailed in the Oxbridge programme

Candidates are encouraged not only to read widely and develop their interest in a subject but also to attend extension classes held by departments. The programme includes interview techniques with the careers department; a pre-interview master class designed to help candidates venture into undergraduate territory, with a view to acquiring the skills and background knowledge to propose original ideas at interview; and the Oxbridge Coffee Bar, the purpose of which is to give candidates a chance to discuss a variety of topics, usually not subject based, and get used to thinking hard, thinking out loud and coping with tricky questions on the spot.

In the Lent term the College runs an Oxbridge Conference which is attended by some 150 students from up to twenty local schools.  The students hear first hand from tutors from Oxford and Cambridge in Arts, Science and Medicine.
