Year 9
Michaelmas Term: Pupils complete a four- week project to devise, record and create a Sonic Postcard. Designed to get pupils thinking about sounds and artisitc manipulation of recordings, this nationally-run project allows them to listen to, and give feedback on, work from many schools across the country. More information is available at www.sonicpostcards.org.
Lent Term: The theme of capturing everyday sounds is continued with a film soundtrack project. Pupils are split into groups and work collaboratively to create a musical soundtrack and foley tracks for a short piece of silent film.
Summer Term: In preparation for GCSE composition work, pupils complete a short publishing project using Sibelius, a 'word processor' for notated music. The project equips pupils with the basic skills required to embark on the compositional element of the GCSE course.
