“I have surprised myself by how much I have been able to get involved with”

Overview

Blackwater House is one of two day houses for girls, situated on the corner of Grange Road and Blackwater Road. There are approximately sixty five pupils. Girls arrive by 8.30am and use the House as their home whilst at school.

On each floor of the House, there is a galley where girls can make drinks and snacks as well as a tuck shop run by 6th formers which is normally open at break times and after games. There is a large sunny common room with a piano, television, comfortable sofas and a TV. This is the hub of the house where visitors are welcome to socialise at specified times. There is a well equipped kitchen for snacks, and a tuck shop run by the girls. The ground floor, in addition to single and double studies for 6th formers has a computer room with 4 stations for communal use. All year 11 students share a double study, while those in years 10 and 9 have purpose-built multi-use rooms accommodating between 4 and 6 per room. All the girls have access to two further kitchens and a snug room fitted with comfortable chairs, large cushions and sofas.

There is also a pleasant garden area at the side of the house with benches. Girls undertake their homework at school, before returning home in the evening. There are six other members of staff attached to Blackwater as tutors, who help to look after the academic and pastoral welfare of the girls.
