When I first visited the College I saw wonderful buildings and facilities but as I moved around the site what struck me most was the strong feeling of community evident among the girls and boys, teaching and support staff. To this day, it is the people at Eastbourne College who make it such a special and enjoyable place in which to work. The College is informal but never casual; busy and purposeful but not hectic or pressured; a co-educational community in which every pupil, boarding or day, enjoys the full breadth and variety that only a full-boarding school day and week can provide. Above all, it is a place of opportunity, where individuals are respected, nurtured and encouraged to discover and develop their own individual strengths and where lifelong friendships are forged. We try to capture the vast range of activity, success and excitement that fill every Eastbourne College week in a weekly web report - please click here to view the latest.
All schools go to great lengths to celebrate the achievements of their girls and boys. At Eastbourne we also work very hard to develop in every pupil those values that we deem to be priceless and fundamental to success at every level – the pursuit of excellence, participation, integrity, courtesy and kindness – qualities that will not only outlive every exam grade or sports score but will also remain instantly recognisable for a lifetime. (Please see our values leaflet).
Finding the right school for your child is like buying a house. Research is important, and talking to parents of current pupils and those who have recently left helps to build a fuller picture. But there is simply no substitute for visiting the school yourself, discussing with the head what is important to him or her, meeting the pupils, tasting the atmosphere and generally watching the school as it goes about its daily business. Only then will the essence of the place become apparent.
Do please come and see the College for yourself! I look forward to welcoming you.
