Geography field trips

College geographers have been out and
about enjoying a range of fascinating field trips over the past few days. GCSE
pupils recently investigated the sustainability of Eastbourne’s town centre as
part of their course. Pupils used the Egan model to act as a basis for their
investigations and used various data collection methods as well as their own
independent methods to draw robust conclusions.

A-level pupils travelled to Nettlecombe
Court Field Studies Centre in Somerset to complete data collection for their assessments.
This specialist field centre has a 16th century house and several
natural habitats for pupils to explore such as grasslands, a river, streams and
woodlands. Pupils completed two pilot studies in connection to the physical
geography topics of carbon, coasts and water.

These
field trips have provided an excellent practical start to geography pupils’
studies this year.
