Cross-Country Team Takes Gold Again!
The Girls’ cross-country team returned to their winning ways this week at the Ardingly Relays. The event, which has had to be cancelled for the last two years due to adverse weather conditions, attracts a prestigious range of schools from as far afield as Harrow. Teams of four girls and six boys each complete a 2000m loop over the school’s playing fields.
In the Girls’ event, Eastbourne runners posted the second, fourth and fifth fastest lap times of the day, from Lilly Freeman (Y11 B), Becca Eaton (Y11 Wt) and Chloe Cook (Y1 Wt) respectively. With the support of the fourth Eastbourne College team member, Maddy Samuels (Y9 N), they were able to fight off stiff competition from Caterham, whose runners posted the fastest and third fastest laps of the day. In a nail-biting final lap, Becca managed to catch up and overtake the fourth runner from Caterham to secure gold.
In the Boys’ event, the Eastbourne College A team finished a respectable fifth, beaten only by the Harrow, Ardingly, Tonbridge and Lancing. Sam Lowden (Y11 C) posted the 9th fastest boy’s lap of the day. He was ably supported Harry Villa (Y11 C), Jamie Bradley (Y11 C), Tom Moody (Y11 C), Monty Wilson (Y9 Pw) and Ed Hickman-Casey (Y13 C), in his final outing as cross-country captain.
We also took a boys’ B team consisting of Tom Grant (Y10 G), George Eaton (Y9 R), Keenan Fishwick (Y10 G), Will McIntyre (Y10 Pw), James Carragher (Y12 R), and Andrew Chapman (Y10 C). It was fantastic to see such a large number of runners in Eastbourne College vests, enjoying the experience and supporting one another.
