Swimming

Swimming is available to all year groups throughout the school in each term.
Swimming can be enjoyed as an activity in Years 9 and 10, or as a games option for Year 11 and the sixth form with sessions available every sporting day of the week and aqua-aerobics taking place twice a week. The squad currently trains on a Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning with other options available. Swimming sessions are also available to all pupils on three evenings a week after prep and both squad and non-squad pupils are welcome.

Eastbourne College has a successful and motivated squad. Most school matches are swum as U16 and U19 year groups, while other larger competitions also offer an U14 category.

Swimming galas take place throughout the year and range in their competitiveness. November sees the national qualification rounds for the English Secondary Schools’ Association, (ESSA) relay competition. College swimmers will take part in a new event in February 2011 when the Weald and Downland Cup, a five-way inter-school event hosted by Tonbridge, will take place. The annual Bath Cup relays at Crystal Palace take place in March.

Recent College successes include the senior boys and junior girls team making the ESSA national finals; the senor boys winning the Dunelm Trophy at the Bath Cup as well as a number of unbeaten seasons for both the senior boys and girls teams.

Swimming is open to all year groups and is swum competitively at U15 and U19 levels. The College Swimming Championship takes place in the summer term, with pupils from each house completing for top honours and house points.

We are also delighted to have international hopeful Josh Pankhurst and national swimmer Chloe Pollard swimming for us. Josh is currently ranked fourth in the country for his age group in backstroke and fifth for front crawl. He hopes to swim for Great Britain in years to come. Chloe has also enjoyed a string of successes at a range of regional and national events.
