“What is drama, but life with the dull bits cut out?”

Drama

The College has enjoyed a long and distinguished reputation for drama productions, which involve students from all year groups and Houses.

All pupils in their first term at the school have the opportunity to be involved with a major production, and these challenges continue for the many enthusiasts throughout their time here. We are fortunate in our facilities, having a fully equipped 284-seater theatre with a raked auditorium and an adaptable space, as well as a new 120 seat studio theatre.

A full-time technician facilitates the students' hands-on experience of the technical aspects of theatre as well as supervising design teams on all productions. Backstage rehearsals take place in the studio theatre, and students are able to use the facilities offered by dressing rooms, wardrobe and props stores. The expertise within the department covers a wide range of options and is complemented by regular workshops from visiting practitioners.

The College Theatre (Big School) also features as an important venue on the small-scale professional touring circuit. College Theatre supports a wide ranging programme of professional companies, many of whom offer workshops to accompany their performances.

The Drama Department host a great many curricular and co-curricular productions and events.  More details can be found on the academic drama page or in the Headmaster's Weekly Web Reports and the Arts Brochure
