“provides instrumentalists with valuable experience”

Orchestra

The College Orchestra was founded in 1929 by Robert Storrs, Housemaster of Pennell and himself a keen double bass player.  The first rehearsals were held in Storr's study, and concerts in the early years were given in the Chapel, featuring light classics and arrangements from operatta.
The College Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sion Parry, is comprised of approximately 40 instrumentalists of Grade 6 and above level.  The orchestra rehearses every week and recent repertoire has included MacCunn's Land of the Mountain and the Flood Overture, Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals , Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, Beethoven's Egmont Overture, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and Mozart's Concerto for two pianos.  As part of their annual programme the Symphony Orchestra give a Summer concert at Eastbourne’s St Saviour’s Church.
