An Afternoon with Evelyn GlennieLocation: College Theatre and Warren Atrium
In conversation with Darren Johnson, with musical interludes and time for questions from the audience.
Dame Evelyn Glennie, the Scottish virtuoso percussionist has been profoundly deaf since the age of 12 and claims to have taught herself to hear with parts of her body other than her ears.
Along with her fifteen honorary university doctorates she was recently awarded the Polar Music Prize (Nobel Prize in Music) and in 2012, was chosen to perform at the Opening Ceremony of London’s Olympic Games. This is a rare opportunity to learn more about her trailblazing personal and musical journey to overcome disability and develop a stellar career as the first ever international solo percussionist.
