An hour with Ed Speleers

An evening of informal and entertaining conversation with film, television and theatre actor, Ed Speleers. Joined by Nigel Wheeler, his tutor and English teacher from his time at Eastbourne College, Ed will be discussing highlights from his career to date as well as his time at school.  

The bar will be open before and after and we are happy to accept donations in cash only.

Ed Speleers (Wargrave 2001–06) landed his first professional role in 2006 as the lead in the screen version of Christopher Paolini’s hit book Eragon.His career now launched, Ed appeared in numerous television and film productions both in the UK and abroad, including, in 2012, the recurring role of Jimmy Kent in the award-winning ITV series Downton Abbey. In 2015, he featured in the BBC ’s historical drama mini-series Wolf Hall, and in the BBC One six-part mini-series Partners in Crime, an adaptation of two of Agatha Christie’s novels. He went on to portray Greg in the psychological thriller Remainder, directed by Omer Fast. Over the next few years, he appeared in Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands, Disney’s fantasy adventure sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass, and Breathe, the biopic based on the life of paraplegic Robin Cavendish, opposite Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy. His appearance in the hit series Outlander as Irish smuggler and pirate Stephen Bonnet was followed by starring in the dark comedy-horror film The House That Jack Built, alongside Matt Dillon and Uma Thurman.

In 2018, Ed made his professional stage première in the play Rain Man, portraying the lead role of Charlie Babbitt opposite Matthew Horne. The year 2022 sees the release of Danish historical film Against the Ice, based on a true story, in which Ed stars alongside Joe Cole, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Charles Dance. Ed has recently been filming on a major, long-running US television series.
