Summer Concert 2019

This year’s annual Summer Concert took place in St Saviour’s Church and featured concerto solos, a choral favourite and even some Samurai war cries!

The programme consisted of Vivaldi’s Guitar Concerto in D, played by Luca Wells and the String Orchestra; the 3rd movement of Mozart’s 4th Horn Concerto, played by Sian Sulke and the Symphony Orchestra; Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise played by Helen Grout on the saxophone accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra; Cecile Chaminade’s Flute Concertino, performed by Leah Hallinon and the Orchestra and the Theme from Hans Zimmer’s Last Samurai. The Upper Sixth soloists were truly excellent and showed off their class and musicality. Ellie Long also did a superb  job in leading the Orchestra.

The Choir then took to the stage to perform Rutter’s Magnificat accompanied by a chamber orchestra which was a mix of professional players and five pupils. Juliette Zeilmaker, who led, Cody Chan, Leah Hallinon, Spike Gleave and James Grout, all did a fantastic job. The Magnificat is a challenging but rewarding piece, with some truly memorable corners. Cerys Herbert Stott, Sian Sulke and Sophie Nicholles all sang wonderful solos in the various movements.

It was a fantastic advertisement for Eastbourne College, the music department and the talented musicians. Enormous congratulations and a huge thank you to all those who took part and helped make the concert such a success.
