Devonshire Park tennis

On Tuesday 6 May, Eastbourne College 1st teams were delighted to participate in some special tennis matches on the internationally renowned grass courts at Devonshire Park.

College pupils, Amelia Allen, Ruby Dawes, Natasha Gale, Phoebe Gale, Rosie Waters and Hebe Williams, played together with an ‘Eastbourne Ladies’ team captained by Anthea Stewart (GB Veterans tennis international and world ranked No 4 in her age group). Anthea’s team, which also included other experienced international and county standard players, was able to impart valuable doubles match-play tactics to the Eastbourne College girls.

Meanwhile, the boys’ team did battle with a representative Public Schools Old Boys LTA team, containing ex-Davis Cup player and Eastbourne coach, Luke Milligan. Pupils Niklas Breitzmann, Lloyd Heathfield, Patrick Kirwan and Ivan Loginov played for the College. The Old Boys team won overall but only after some excellent tennis from both sides.

The grass courts were superb, the matches were played in radiant Eastbourne sunshine and it was a wonderful celebration of the growing link between Eastbourne College and Devonshire Park.
