Eastbourne College Choir Pupils Attend Performance of Handel’s Saul at Glyndebourne

On a memorable trip to Glyndebourne, 13 pupils from the Eastbourne College Choir had the opportunity to attend a morning performance of Handel’s Saul—a powerful and dramatic oratorio that left a lasting impression on everyone present.

The group were treated not only to a world-class production in the unique setting of Glyndebourne’s iconic opera house but also to a special moment behind the scenes. During the interval, the pupils were invited to meet countertenor Iestyn Davies, who performs the role of David in the production.

Iestyn generously took time out of his performance day to speak with the pupils about life on the operatic stage, the role of David, and the experience of performing in such a prestigious setting. The encounter provided a rare and inspiring glimpse into the world of professional music-making and offered valuable insight to those aspiring to careers in performance.

This visit was not only a cultural highlight but also a formative educational experience—bringing classroom and rehearsal room learning to life in one of the world’s most respected operatic venues.

A huge thank you to Glyndebourne and Iestyn Davies for making the day so special.
