Excellent GCSE results

Pupils and staff at the College are celebrating excellent GCSE results. Of the 124 Year 11 pupils, 99.1% achieved five or more A*–C grades, with over 96% of all exams taken scoring A*–C (61% A or A*). Eighty-two of the year group notched up five or more As or A*s. More than 28% of grades awarded were A*.

Nineteen pupils achieved at least 8A*s, with top student Kajal Radia gaining a clean sweep of 13 A* grades. Close behind Kajal are Arith Fonseka and Louise Watson (11A*, 2A), Bill Corfield, Bryony Maxwell, Jessica Porter and Aneesa Zaidi (11A*, 1A), Emma Lowden (11A*) and David Meijer (10A*, 1A). Michelle Chin, Benjamin Foster and Dominic Hickman Casey all achieved 9A* grades or better.

Of the 28 GCSEs taken a year early by 22 Year 10 pupils, 25 were awarded an A* grade.
Over the last five years almost two-thirds of all GCSE grades achieved by pupils at the College have been A* or A.

Headmaster Simon Davies is justly proud of the achievements of pupils: ‘Despite a national warning by Ofqual that grades awarded for core subjects in 2013 may be lower than in previous years, I am delighted that once again the College is celebrating a superb set of results and I offer my congratulations to all those – pupils and teachers – whose hard work and dedication against a busy backdrop of art, music, drama and sport have made these results possible.’

He continued, ‘It is particularly pleasing to see the overall College results increase in a year when the national percentage of % A*-C grades fell by over 1%.  Most significantly, our science results were very strong when nationally the A*-C grades awarded fell from 60.7% to 53%.’
