Historians’ trip

The history department recently took 15 A-level historians
over to Holmewood House School in Tunbridge Wells for a series of evening
lectures on World War One.  There were three excellent, well known
academic speakers; Gary Meade who spoke about his new biography of Haig, Andrew
Robertshaw on the life of ordinary soldiers in the trenches (Andrew was the
technical adviser on the film War Horse)
and David Walsh on public schools and the Great War.

These talks were addressed to an audience of over 100 people
from the Tunbridge Wells community with Eastbourne College being the only
school group to attend.

It was a very stimulating evening which, undoubtedly, opened
the minds of our Sixth Form historians to the depth and detail of the Great
War.
