National tennis finals
The Eastbourne College senior girls tennis team finished sixth at the national final of the 2017 Independent Schools Tennis Championship having met Millfield in the fifth/sixth place match.
Earlier in the competition the Eastbourne squad beat Berkhamstead 8-0 in the last 16, lost to Cheam 0-8 in the quarter-finals, and beat Repton 7-6 in an exceptional match which finished in a draw with Valentina winning the crucial tie-breaker 10-8 to send the girls through to the fifth/sixth place match.
This was the first time a team from Eastbourne College had ever reached the national finals and to finish in sixth place, following an unbeaten summer season, was a truly exceptional achievement. The girls are eagerly looking forward to next season and another opportunity to meet other top tennis schools from across the UK.
Congratulations to the whole team – Amelia Allen (captain), Ellie Dasent. Martha Holt, Valentina Khalturina, Katie McIntyre and Ines Pelvang. (Also shown in photograph above are coach Luke Milligan and Master-in-Charge of Tennis, Simon Gent.)
