Old Eastbournian Freddy Powis Commissioned into the Royal Air Force

Eastbourne College is delighted by the recent news of Old Eastbournian, Freddy Powis, who has secured a commission with the Royal Air Force.

During his Upper Sixth year, Freddy applied to the RAF while completing his A level studies and successfully passed the RAF Officer and Aircrew Selection process, a two-day assessment for prospective officers.

He was subsequently encouraged to pursue a pathway with the RAF Regiment. Freddy will begin Initial Officer Training at RAF Cranwell in June, a six-month course, before progressing to Phase 2 specialist training with the RAF Regiment at RAF Honington. This will involve a 22-week Air Force Protection Close Combat Specialist course.

David Ruskin, Contingent Commander of the Combined Cadet Force at Eastbourne College, said: “Freddy’s achievement is wonderful. He made a clear decision about his future and has pursued it with determination. I am delighted that his experiences within the CCF at Eastbourne have played a small part in his success. We are very proud of him, and we wish him well as he begins officer training at RAF Cranwell.”
