RAF summer camp

Nine cadets from the Eastbourne College CCF RAF section departed for their annual camp on the first Monday of the summer break. The camp was designed to provide the cadets with first-hand experience of life in the RAF and to allow them to participate in some of its fantastic opportunities.

All cadets spent 30 minutes with an RAF pilot flying a Grob Tutor aeroplane around the skies over RAF Benson before moving onto their accommodation at St George’s Barracks in Bicester. Other activities included a tour of the fire section and Air Traffic Control at RAF Northolt, full-bore live firing on an outdoor range where all cadets achieved at least a second class marksman qualification, a visit to the RAF museum in Hendon, ration pack cooking, raft-building, low ropes and caving activities to develop teamwork and trust.

The group also enjoyed some relaxation during a visit to a flumes water park at Aylesbury, a cinema trip and even a couple of hours of shopping at the Bicester Outlet Village. Something for everyone!
