RNLI award

Alan Simister, Head Porter at the College, is a highly valued member of the Eastbourne Inshore Lifeboat Crew. He has recently received a certificate from the RNLI to recognise his outstanding contribution during a rescue operation where a car and its driver fell from the cliffs at Beachy Head on to the beach below. The details of the RNLI commendation were as follows:

“The Trustees of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution have noted the actions of Crew Member Alan Simister during a service on 12 October 2012 and hereby record their appreciation for his initiative, compassion and and exemplary first aid treatment to an unresponsive and seriously injured man at the foot of Beachy Head. Due to hazardous local conditions, the Inshore Lifeboat could not safely reach the beach so Crew Member Alan Simister swam ashore to assess and care for the casualty, in darkness, while awaiting further help.”
