Eastbourne College’s First Multi-Sport Tour to Dubai

Eastbourne College recently embarked on an exciting and historic journey—its first-ever multi-sport tour to Dubai. The tour included 35 pupils and six staff members, representing four sports: basketball, swimming, girls’ cricket, and netball. It was an unforgettable experience filled with intensive training sessions, competitive matches, and incredible cultural experiences, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

The swimming team had a productive week of training in a 50-meter pool, preparing rigorously for the upcoming regional qualifiers. The experience not only honed their skills but also served as a well-deserved reward after a highly successful year in the pool. Meanwhile, the basketball and netball teams took advantage of Dubai’s world-class facilities, participating in challenging matches and training sessions. A highlight for the netball team was working with Hurricane’s netball coaches at the iconic Sevens ground. The basketball team similarly benefitted from expert guidance at the Beyond Basketball Academy.

The girls’ cricket team made their way to Abu Dhabi Sports City, where they trained with professional players and coaches from Nottingham Blaze. These sessions were invaluable, providing practical insights and encouragement from elite athletes. The entire group displayed an impressive commitment to excellence while enjoying the camaraderie that comes from training and competing together.

Beyond the sporting activities, the touring party took time to immerse themselves in the local culture and attractions. From marveling at the grandeur of the Burj Khalifa and shopping at the Dubai Mall to exploring local Souks and experiencing a thrilling desert safari, every moment was filled with discovery. They also visited Ferrari World, a water park, and the world’s largest mosque, making the trip both athletically and culturally enriching.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated staff—Mr Berry, Mrs Simmonds, Mr Wright, Mrs Price, and Miss Callaghan—whose commitment made the trip possible. We are incredibly proud of our pupils for being true Eastbournian ambassadors and looking out for one another throughout the journey.
