Current Year 13 pupil, Ebony, has enjoyed an outstanding summer on the water. After just 11 months of competitive sailing, she completed a remarkable year by securing a place in the Gold Fleet at the ILCA 4 World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark. It was an exceptional achievement, made all the more impressive by the fact that it came at her first ever World Championships.
Ebony’s success has not gone unnoticed. Shortly after returning home, she received an invitation to join the British Sailing Pathway Performance Development Squad and will begin training with the programme this autumn.
Selection for the squad marks the next step on the high-performance sailing pathway and represents a significant endorsement from the Royal Yachting Association. It reflects the belief that Ebony has the potential to achieve success at the highest levels of youth and Olympic sailing.
Reflecting on her journey so far, Ebony stated: “The sports department at Eastbourne College has and continues to help me hugely on my sailing journey. From strength and conditioning programmes, to allowing me to attend and supervising early morning gym sessions three times a week, to mental preparation. Everyone is so supportive, with my tutors, teachers and housemistress helping me to balance life at the college, academia and sport.”
Her achievements are a testament to her determination, resilience and exceptional rate of progress in the sport. We congratulate Ebony on a remarkable year and look forward to following her journey as she takes this exciting next step.
