Gold D of E awards

On 13 January a further four of last year’s 20 upper sixth Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award students attended Saint James’s Palace to receive their award from the Earl of Wessex.

The OE’s listened to an inspirational talk by Mike Naworynsky OBE who recounted his own experiences of completing the D of E award and how it helped him in his illustrious career in the RAF. He told the audience that every CV he received with the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awarded, automatically went to the top of the pile as it showed the candidate had strong leadership skills, the ability to work within a team and above all grit and determination.

Pictured above directly after the ceremony are Rory Cramp (Powell), Miles Machin (Wargrave),  Archie Meikle (Craig) and Dammy Sokale (Watt). All of the students had completed the required elements of the D of E Gold Award  during their time in the sixth form at the College –  volunteering, learning a new skill, participating in a physical activity, attending a residential course and participating in a challenging five day expedition in wild country.
