Hockey tour to South Africa

On 1 July, 25 girls and staff gathered in School House yard ready to depart on a 24-day hockey tour to South Africa. The group travelled to Cape Town, via Dubai, filled with both excitement and nerves about what lay ahead of them.

The tour followed the famous Garden Route, with matches in Port Elizabeth, Woodridge, Grahamstown, East London and Stellenbosch before the final match in Cape Town.

As well as greatly improving their hockey skills, the girls sampled traditional African food and dancing, marvelled at the the views from Table Mountain and Cape Point and thoroughly enjoyed game drives where baby elephants stole the show.

At the end-of-tour dinner Katie Brauer received the award of Coach’s Player and Libby Hyder, Jessica Partridge and Louise Watson were voted Players of the Tour by their peers.

After 24 days, 10 competitive matches and 3000km of driving the group returned home, tired but elated. Staff who accompanied the pupils were delighted with the enthusiasm and exemplary behaviour demonstrated by every girl during the tour.
