Remembrance service 2017

The Combined Cadet Force gathered on Sunday 12
November to remember those who lost their lives or suffered as a result of
their contribution in all conflicts. The Chapel service saw the addition of the
building of a Drum head by cadets from all three services of the Corps. Cadets
were used to illustrate some of the shocking statistics of WW1. The address
delivered by the Contingent Commander Anthony Lamb focussed on the scale of the
disaster and the fact that any loss of life is tragedy, no matter how small or
big the scale. There followed the Act of Remembrance on College Field with the
Corps of Drums sounding off before a wonderful rendition of the ‘Last Post’ by
Emma Smith and Loic Bass Gualbert
who played the forlorn tunes on bugles that had been presented to the College
in 1915.  The College was delighted to welcome so many parents and friends to
this occasion but in particular Wing Commander (Retired) Donald Perrens DSO OBE
DFC and Sgt Walter (Joe) Wright. Wing Commander Perrens was a College teacher, housemaster
and contingent commander from 1946 – 1981 and flew with the RAF in WW2. Sgt
Wright is the grandfather of the College receptionist and served in the Royal
Signals at Bletchley Park and in Africa and Germany through WW2.
