Swiss exchange trip

Ten pupils from the OMS St Ursula in Brig, Wallis in Switzerland arrived to the mist and frost of an English winter afternoon last Thursday to meet up with their partner pupils. This trip to Eastbourne was the first part of the German language exchange programme that has existed since 2001.

The Swiss guests were accommodated either with the families of pupils or in College boarding houses, and spent a week experiencing the best of what Eastbourne College, the local area, and country have to offer, all the time immersing themselves in the English language.

Activities included shadowing partners into lessons, a tour of the town, a visit to the sights of London, shopping in Brighton, cookery, yoga and even a taste of traditional English cuisine – a curry evening!

On their final evening the group, led by the same two teachers who have brought Swiss pupils for many years, produced a Swiss evening for their host pupils and families – an insight into their country, region and school, along with some lovely samples of Swiss chocolate.

The return leg takes place in two weeks and represents a fantastic, and rare, opportunity for Eastbourne College pupils to experience family and school life in this beautiful corner of the world, and to perfect those languauge skills whilst skiing, eating, or lying in the hot waters of a mountain spa resort!
