At Eastbourne College, we seek to build character through a vibrant mix of co-curricular activities that inspire and challenge our pupils. We believe in sparking curiosity, encouraging creativity, development of a healthy relationship with sport and exercise and service to others. These activities take place both within and outside of the school day, providing pupils with numerous opportunities to extend their academic endeavours and explore new interests.
We pride ourselves on offering a holistic approach that builds confidence, resilience and character but this does not happen overnight. As Heraclitus wisely said, “Good character is not formed in a week or a month. It is created little by little, day by day.”
Our enrichment opportunities fall within three interconnected pillars:
Creative Arts
Our vibrant arts offering includes art, ceramics, dance, design technology, drama, music and photography. Creativity is imbued in all that we do. We proudly hold the prestigious Platinum Artsmark Award, a testament to our excellence in the arts, and the recent ISI Inspection highlighted creativity as a significant strength of the school.
Sports/Blue Health
Our co-curricular sports and activities offering provides a multitude of opportunities for physical activity, promoting well-being. As a Blue Health school, we embrace the rejuvenating power of the sea to boost both physical and mental health, and our inspiring location, nestled between the beach and the South Downs, provides the perfect backdrop for a wide range of sports and exercise opportunities – whether it is sailing, mountain biking, or our mass-participation aquathlon.
Service to Others
Giving back is a cornerstone of our co-curricular offering, encouraging pupils to develop teamwork, empathy, leadership and a sense of community. Pupils engage in various service activities, including beach cleaning, our large tri-service Combined Cadet Force, supporting local elderly residents through the Wednesday Club and assisting with literacy and maths clubs for younger pupils.
A number of our co-curricular opportunities allow pupils to gain nationally recognised and accredited qualifications and awards, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award, CREST Award, Arts Award and various opportunities within our unique Leadership, Awards and Personal Development (LAPD) programme.
