Pupils brave the world-famous yacht race, “Round the Island”

This weekend, 5 pupils from Year 9 and Year 12 braved the highly changeable, tricky weather conditions and joined racers from around the globe to take part in the world-famous yacht race, “Round the Island”. The world’s biggest single-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight, with approximately 1000 boats. Navigating tricky tides and currents, passing the iconic Needles and dodging sunken wrecks and shallow sandbanks.

The boys drew on their great breadth of personal experience to work with locally based Bourne to Sail instructors to complete the 60-mile course in 8 hrs 24 mins. This placed them 14th in their category but 2nd place in the “young Crew” category. Setting a benchmark for future years, hopefully.  Like all experiences from our Leadership, Awards and Personal Development (LAPD) dept, this was not only a test of resilience but also teamwork, leadership, comradery and endurance. All of which, were demonstrated by all.

Congratulations to Rowley, Monty, Kevin, Will and Toby.
